Ett kort på mig från Bokmässan/A photo of me from the Book fair

Nene (förtjusande person och tillika författare till de väldigt bra urban fantasy-böckerna "Udda verklighet" och "Särskild") tog kort på mig efter att jag presenterat lite av min forskning på Forskartorget på Bokmässan. Så här såg jag ut då.

Två självporträtt/ Two self portraits

Jag är hemma och nu ska det badas, ätas medicin och sova - och imorgon ska jag och Maja på barnkalas på Badpalatset i Lerum. Jag har ju varit upptagen med att jobba och inte tagit några foton egentligen. Men jag har två självporträtt, tagna genom att jag höll upp kameran mot ansiktet.

Jag stickade en mössa på tåget upp (jag började redan på onsdagen och hade väl kommit en fem centimeter, men resten är gjort på tåget och lite avslutande i min kompis lägenhet där jag bodde, när jag kom fram dit. Garnet är restgarn som jag hade hemma. Här har jag den på mig när jag skulle iväg och äta och dricka öl ihop med Cruella och Frk Tjatlund.

Och så här såg jag ut idag, när jag själv skulle tala på konferensen.

I'm home and now I'm going to take my medicine, have a bath and then go to bed. Because tomorrow Maja and I are going to a one of her friends' birthday party. 
I have been busy at the conference and didn't really take any photos - except for these; by holding the camera in front of my face.
On wednesday I had started on another stocking cap and when I embarked on the train to Stockholm on Thursday I had knitted maybe five centimetres. The rest is knitted on the train, except for the very last which I made in my friend's flat where I was staying, when I got there. Here I'm wearing it, on my way to meet up with two internet friends for something to eat and beers.
The lower photo is how I looked today, when I gave my presentation.

Textilhistorisk konferens nästa!/ Next stop: Conference on Textile History

I eftermiddag drar jag till Stockholm för att gå på konferens. Det är Pasold-stiftelsen som praktiskt nog håller sin internationella konferens på ett ställe som är någorlunda bekvämt att ta sig till i år. Inte lika roligt som London och Brighton, där jag var på modehistoriska konferenser förra vintern, men praktiskt som sagt. Konferensen heter Innovation before the modern: Cloth and clothing in the early modern world och innehåller massa spännande saker. Jag ska prata om klädkonsumtion bland Stockholms borgerskap under sent 1500-tal och första hälften av 1600-talet. Det är en del av det som jag har jobbat med större delen av året, med utgångspunkt från bouppteckningar från den perioden. Eller, som det står i abstractet till konferensen:

"Clothing consumption in 16th and 17th century Stockholm
Probates and divisions of inheritance are among the few sources available regarding clothing consumption in early modern Sweden. They are especially interesting because they show consumption in social strata which are usually absent in Swedish sources, such as artisans and soldiers. The probates thus cover a social spectrum from very rich burghers and nobility down to manual workers in workshops. While not all of the probates list clothing many do, and a variety of domestic and imported materials can be found. The probates also include both men and women, and while the material is too small for a quantitative study gender differences, both regarding the amount and value of the clothing and which materials and colours were worn by either sex, will be noted and discussed. Another source to the clothing consumption of the middle and lower classes in this period is the magistrate records of Stockholm. Both these will be used in this paper. The results from the survey will also be related to Swedish sumptuary laws of the 16th and 17th centuries. It is impossible to state if the sumptuary laws were adhered too, but a tentative conclusion on whether the forbidden luxury materials were in more widespread use or if the legislators were acting more on a perceived than an actual “problem”, may be drawn. This is especially valid for the sumptuary laws of 1664, where separate versions were issued for three of the four estates."

Fast det har ändrat sig lite, vad jag ska tala om, sen jag skrev detta - det blir inga tänkeböcker och jag hann som sagt inte med hela 1600-talet.

Thsi afternoon I'm taking the train to Stockholm to attend the Pasold Research Fund's conference. It's very practical for me that it's in Stockholm this time. Not as fun and exciting as London or Brighton, where I went to conferences last winter, but convenient. The conference is called "Innovation before the modern: Cloth and clothing in the early modern world" and the programme is full of interesting things. What I am going to talk about you can see in the abstract above, though htere have been some changes since I wrote that in February, mainly due to my ill health, and I won't cover the second half of the 17th century.

Kvällens planer/ Plans for tonight

Jo, jag vet att jag är sjuk, men hur ofta spelar The Wedding Present i Sverige? Inte varje decennium.

Jag har tagit tramadol, tar (förstås) med mina kryckor och hoppas att jag kan hitta en stol någonstans.

Yes, I know that I'm ill, but how often are The Wedding Present playing in Sweden? Not every decade. I've taken tramadol, I have my crutches (can't make it without them)  and hope to find a chair.

I början av 1000-talet ändrades skandinavernas klädstil drastiskt. Man ändrade inte bara nyanser utan använde helt nya material och klädesplagg. Men vad fick dem att byta garderob och vad signalerade den nya stilen?

Färdig mössa/ The finished cap

I fredags började jag som sagt på en mössa och idag har jag gjort färdigt den, tvättat och sträckt ut den och gett den en tofs. Inspirationen kommer från det här omslaget på Damernas Värld från 1944 och jag har velat göra en i ett par år, men det var alltså först nu som jag fick tummen ur.

Färgvalet gav sig lite av sig självt, eftersom jag håller på IFK Göteborg.

Nu ska jag titta på matchen på TV, eftersom jag fortfarande inte är frisk nog att gå på fotboll.

On Friday I started on a stocking cap and today I finished, washed and blocked it and added a tassel. The inspiration was the 1944 magazine cover that you see above, though the colours are the colours of the football (soccer) team that I support. They play tonight, but I'm still too ill to go, so I will have to watch the game on the telly.

Jag har börjat sticka (igen)/ I've started knitting again

Ikväll började jag på en så kallad  "stocking cap", det vill säga en mössa som ser ut som en lång strut. Den ska vara blå och naturvit och ha en tofs i änden. Garnet är Sandnes garns "Tove" i klarblått och ett vitt ullgarn som mamma köpte till mig på någon bussresa i Halland för över ett decennium sen. Jag stickade resåren på 2 1/2or och resten blir på 3or. Eftersom jag sak ut och resa (till Trollhättan) imorgon och vara borta över helgen räknar jag med att ha kommit en bra bit på väg på söndag; stickning passar ju så bra till umgänge.

Tonight I started on a stocking cap in clear blue and off white wool yarn, pretty thin. I used 2 1/2 mm needles on the ribbing and now I've switched to 3 mm.  Since I'm going away over the weekend and both travelling and socializing go so well with knitting I predict that I will have made quite a lot when Sunday comes.
