Vuxna barn/ Adult kids

Idag fyller mina stora flickor arton år. Det känns både helt naturligt och alldeles främmande. De är inte färdiga med gymnasiet än, så egentligen kommer väl inget att ändras, men ändå känns det ganska annorlunda.

Och på denna tjusiga bild från i våras kan man se dem båda spela Rock Band. Det var fler med, men av hänsyn till att t ex fortfarande hade pyjamasbyxor på sig har jag skurit bort dem.

Today my big girls turned eighteen and are now legally adults. It feels a bit strange, while at the same time totally natural. Valeria is the one who shares my dressing up hobby while Vendela competes in dressage. In the last photo they're playing Rock Band with soma friends, who I have left out of the photo due to their less than formal dress - one was wearing pyjama bottoms.

Festklädsel/ A party outfit

Igår hade vi en liten balkongfest. Liten i jämförelse med förra årets, eftersom jag har inrett balkongen mer nu och det därför inte får plats fler än de sju personer vi var som trängdes där som mest. Eller ja, som mest var vi väl nio eftersom barnen var ute en sväng på balkongen också.

I vilket fall klädde jag upp mig - det här är  vad jag hade tänkt ha på Institutionens sommarfest om jag inte hade varit för sjuk för att gå. Det är alltså första gången jag har mina Raspberry Ripple från Irregular Choice "på riktigt". Här poserar jag framför bålen - som bestod av rosenlikör (som jag gjort), sprit, rosensaft (som min ysster gjort), mineralvatten och röda bär - och vinboxen.

Skorna är alltså från Irregular Choice, klänningen har jag sytt själv.

We had a small party on our balcony yesterday evening/night. The size of the party limited by the size of the balcon which nevertheless was very crowded.  I wore this dress which I have designed, drafted and sewn myself and shoes from Irregular Choice .

Sista Wettergrens/ The last from Wettergrens

Så var det dags för lite foton från Wettergrens 1946 igen. Här från dotterbolaget Dress fabrik i Gamlestan.

The factory building of the subsidiiary "Dress".

At the main factory the employees can buy a wide range of goods at reduced prices and the products from the company are sold at cost price.

The employees can also have their shoes mended at cost price (remember that this was a time of serious shortages of many things in Europe). You can also have your nylons stockings mended for a low cost.

A female HR sconsultant gives advice on economic and social topics to the employees. She also manages the company's library where the emplyees can borrow both fiction and non-fiction.

Through the art club the employees are given the opportunity to listen to lectures on art, visit exhibitions and take part in raffles to win pieces of art.
Several mail boxes wher the emplyees can put suggestiosn for improvement are found in teh factory and good suggestions are rewarded.

There's a wood working workshop with modern tools for all the carpentry that's needed in the factory, including this  "universal machine".

With this last image showing how the products reach the modern woman who loves good quality we end this short exposé, wherein we have mostly seen the factory at Stigberget, but also a few photos from the "Dress" factory.

På den här fina som föreställer en familj på besök på zoo 1930 fastnade jag för ärmkonstruktionen på kvinnans klänning.

Sömmen som går ner från sidan mot ryggslutet fascinerar mig också. Sen är ju både björnungen och flickan i den tidstypiska klädseln och frisyren väldigt söta.

Bundesarchiv has shared lots of photos on Wikimedia Commons, where you (among other places) find them in the category "Fashion". In this lovely photo from a family visit to the zoo I fell for the sleeve construction on the woman's dress. I'm also intrigued by the seam running from the side and downward. And of course both the bear and the little girl in her for the period typical dress and haircut are very cute.

Marinblå sandaler/ navy blue sandals

De här sandalerna i en stil som definitivt hade funkat på 1940-talet köpte jag just på rea på Ellos för 150 spänn. De är lite vidare i hela foten än vad jag gillar, jag vill bara ha brett framtill, men de är i skinn och  bekväma, förutom att de är i en stil jag gillar så de får nog ändå ses som ett fynd. Funkar dock förmodligen ännu bättre för dem med högre vrister, mina fötter är rätt platta.

Eftersom jag bär mycket blått och färger som passar ihop med blått räknar jag med att få mycket användning för dem.
I just bought these shoes in a plausible 1940s style on sale. Since I wear navy and colours that go well with navy often I think I will use them quite a lot.

A stimulating break from work in the form of exercise on the roof terrace, led by a female P.E instructor.

The interest in sport also shows in the factory's sport club which has hand ball, badminton, cycling, swimming, skiing and track on its programme.
There's a factory nurse who mainly deals with accidents at work.

The running of such a large company takes a lot of adminstration. On the planning board the usage of materials and the prodcution in the different workshops can be tracked.

The advertisign department not only organizes advertising campagins, but also prints the staff's newsletter, brochures and other small print.

These photos are from the subsidiary company "Dress". The cut fabric is packed with the notions needed and travels through a tube system from the cutting room to the sewing room. The seamstresses sit along a conveyor belt which transport the garment from seamstress to seamstress as they have finished their detail. This was very modern at the time (and I remember the same system from the 70s when my mother worked in a sewing factory).

The pressing finished the garment.

The quality control is strict and all garments are tried on a live model.

Som jag skrev på engelska under en av bilderna minns jag transportbanden från sömmerska till sömmerska från när min mamma jobbade på Aspens på 70-talet. Wettergrens påstående om hur modernt systemet var 1946 verkar nog stämma; om det fortfarande användes 30 år senare menar jag.

Wettergrens 1946

Wettergrens var ett konfektionsföretag från och i Göteborg (med tillverkning även i Jönköping). Det grundades av änkan Eva Wettergren 1936. Hon sålde textilier och hantverksvaror och rörelsen kom under slutet av 1800-talet att inrikta sig på framför allt kappsömnad.  1946 firade man jubileum av flera viktiga händelser, inte bara grundandet utan även  t ex bolagsbildandet (1896) och gjorde därför en jubileumsskrift som trycktes 1947 och heter "Spegelbilder". Den skildrar dels företagets, dels modets historia från 1836. Den mest intressanta delen för mig är dock den sista, där det nuvarande (dvs 1946) företaget skildras i ljusa toner med många bilder. Bilderna är både från fabriken vid Stigberget och dotterbolaget Dress på Gamlestadsvägen. Det finns fler, men jag delar upp det i flera inlägg för storlekens skull.

These are photo from the Gothenburg based clothing company Wettergrens in 1946. They show the prodcution, but also other activities connected to their factories, which mainly made women's coats and dresses. There's more , but I divide them into several posts due to the size.

The cutter uses an electrical saw to cut out many pieces (I remember my dad doing this in the 1970s) and all seamstresses specializes in one detail, which makes them experts on that particular moment and makes sure that the quality is high and even on every part.

Canteen and kitchen which serve almost 1000 people every day.

Some people like to smoke during their breaks so a smoking room is situated next to the roof terrace, where coffee and soft drinks are also sold.

New employees go through a 4 year long education, including practice in the different departments. During this period they are paid accordign to the current agreement between the unions and the ready-to-wear industry.

The fur department is nowadays (1946) large, making both collars and ecorations and women's furs.
